Porsche Panamera: Base Price of USD127,000

Potent Turbo Diesels Will Join Hybrid

We are just over a year away from the official appearance of Porsche’s production saloon coupe, a car aimed at unsettling the Mercedes-Benz CLS as well as Audi and BMW’s upcoming four-door coupes. Assembly lines in Leipzig are already being tooled to ready themselves for the Panamera, while engines are being finalised. Audi may likely share this line with Porsche for its A7 saloon coupe too. The car will start at USD127,000 for the V6 model and the V8 turbo will start at USD198,000. Porsche is also pushing extremely hard to get a hybrid system, and also the double-clutch system it’s been working on, into the Panamera so its carbon footprint is reduced to legislated EU levels by 2010.

From what we know, the 4.8-litre V8 will remain as well as get a boost for the twin-turbo of well over 500 bhp. Three diesels are likely too; a smaller plus-3.0-litre, the Audi-sourced 4.2 V8 TDI as well as the V12 TDI. While these may not make it to the US, the hybrid most definitely will.

None of what any of you guys said matters, Its a Porsche not to mention higher up on the chain meaning its viewed as Elite. Thats all that matters, it will sell, alot. Look at the Cayenne V6, the trucks a POS....it still sells like hotcakes though...why ? Cause its a Porsche.

brand name recognition will only get you so far. Look at GM a decade ago GM stock was steadier then the dollar. And now after doing to many pos cars...

1) it won`t look ugly, look here: http://www.motorauthority.com/images/Porsche/Panamera/Render2/2010_Porsche_Panamera_rendering_MotorAuthority_002.jpg 2) Porsche is not responsible that the us dollar has become such a weak currency in comparison to the euro, it doesn`t make sense for a carmaker to give away their cars for free.

They should issue the prices in dirhams!!!! :)

For those ridiculous prices you might as well keep the car in Europe. I'm not convinced its the weak dollar that is the problem as companies are generally able to design something to a price point.

I have just spoke to guy at a Porsche dealer and he says the V6 will start at 90,000 and that the back end is looking like that to fool the public. He has a good source that says the back end will look completely different.

I really hope your source is credible...it sounds like it is. 200K for a V6 Panamera? That's outlandish.

Ugliest car Porsche ever made.

@sharpie i doubt these prices as well, but still the dollar is a grwoing problem for european carmakers and also for us customers cause they won`t get the whole variety of models offered by european carmakers. Here in europe the Panamera V6 will be offered for the same price as a 997 Carrera. So prices listed above should be wrong. besides that i tend to believe u with the rear, i know a guy that works for porsche and he has seen it withouth camouflage and he says it looks far better than spy pics suggest.

Ya, Joe you're right...but Porsche isn't GM. Also remember, there are many shallow people with alotta money who don't know very much about cars. These are the same type of people who will buy a car based more on its price rather than how good of a car it really is. A perfect example is the Cayenne V6 again, its really not a special truck. But it did sell fairly well.

However with that said, Porsche really should think about just how lower-quality their cars get.

In my opinion this car will be awesome and I honestly beleive that Porsche should have developed a 4door/sedan BEFORE they even attempted an SUV. Which brings me to the Cayenne... THE UGLIEST PORSCHE EVER!!

Would also be awesome to see this car with some of the Audi diesels, mainly the V8 TDI and the V12 TDI would be insane!!

if i wanted to buy that kinda car, i would go for the jag xf.

whether this car sells or not is not upto me, but i still think this is just a waste of resources...

July 23, 2008 2:15:59 PM

how are they going to fit a V12 in that car? ;o the front looks way too small for such a big engine..

ya know if Audi ever decided to split from the VAG, I think more than half the group would collapse. All I hear is about different makes (the rest of the group) using a lot of Audi engineering. Obviously Lamborghini doesn't really count because it's directly owned by Audi.

I dont believe that there can be a significant change to the backend. See the roofline? It sort of has to flow into the tail. For some crazy reason Porsche thinks that their vehicles must have the iconoclast Porsche look. You know. The headlights and the tailend appearing as much like a 911 as possible. Yes many people WILL by this car because its a Porsche and because they are image hounds. But when those people sit at a table at their fav eatery and here ALL the other patrons squawk about the ugliness and what a loser the fool who bought it must be, those same owners will sell the car within 1 year. Porsche blew it with this one.

an ugly price....for an ugly car. i would pay 200k or more for an aston martin rapide. that is a 200k car.

Porsche meet BMW. BMW, tell Porsche why the 3 series, 5 series, and 7 series (especially the 5 and 7 series) are by far the ugliest cars ever made? Yep, change the design of an already beautiful saloon/coupe and welcome to the land of disgust.

Porsche would be better off saying this car was a cruel joke gone horribly wrong.

And so comes a further niche to slowly but surely destroy Porsche's name as a purist performance car manufacturer.

As long as they make 911's, I will still respect them tho

benz_man
July 26, 2008 1:01:06 AM

OMG, what are you'll talking about? Bangle BMWs are the greatest ever (now). And this Porsche will sell like hot-cakes! Cause its gonna look great. Porsche's trying to keep this thing "under-wraps" for now.

There is no way Porsche can compete BMW and Audi...no matter how high they make the price.
